CSTO practices actions to neutralize extremist groups

MINSK, 24 December (BelTA) – A joint training exercise involving duty shifts of the CSTO Crisis Response Center, command posts of defense ministries, and ministries of civil defense and emergencies of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan took place on 24 December, CSTO Joint Staff press secretary Vladislav Shchegrikovich told BelTA.

“According to the scenario of the exercise, a set of measures was practiced to localize a crisis situation in one of the Central Asian states using the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces. Alongside stabilization measures, an algorithm of joint actions was rehearsed to neutralize extremist groups whose members were actively preparing sabotage operations against the country’s critical infrastructure,” the press secretary said.

In addition, duty shifts practiced actions in the event of an armed incursion across a section of the state border. “According to the scenario, the emergency situation arose as a result of a terrorist act and was accompanied by a large-scale spill of a hazardous chemical substance, which required the rapid deployment of rescue units, containment of the area, and evacuation of the population,” the press secretary noted.

Head of the CSTO Crisis Response Center, Major General Arsen Rakhmanov took stock of the exercise and noted that the duty shifts successfully rehearsed action algorithms, carried out timely information exchange, and coordinated with relevant agencies and the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces command in responding to crisis (emergency) situations.
