GRODNO, 12 August (BelTA) - Grodno Oblast is set to host over 120 representatives from Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast for the fourth Congress of Small Towns, Grodno Oblast Governor Yuri Karayev told the media following a meeting with the Nizhny Novgorod delegation, BelTA reports.

“We share similar engineering schools, their machinery manufacturing has been developed for decades. During Soviet times, Nizhny Novgorod (then Gorky) was a closed city producing fighter jets, tanks and more. Most know it for the Gorky Automobile Plant, a true hub of Soviet industrial cooperation,” the governor said. “It is not just some small town, now also a tourist destination. All these factors, along with our proximity, make us similar.”
Yuri Karayev expressed confidence in the congress’ benefits: “Over 120 representatives from Nizhny Novgorod. The delegation includes small and medium businesses – not just municipal leaders, but entrepreneurs who will communicate in person and see potential partners.”
The governor highlighted successful economic collaboration. “But beyond that, there are also human connections and cultural ties. It is rewarding to see dozens of visitors fall in love with Belarus and especially our Grodno region,” he added.
Held from 12-15 August, the fourth Congress of Small Towns features events across multiple districts, culminating in Mosty with the signing of interregional cooperation agreements.
Emphasizing the congress’ significance for both regions, Yuri Karayev noted their mutual interests. “The Nizhny Novgorod region is particularly interesting to us due to its proximity and its industry, agriculture, and tourism,” he stated.
