MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – The Pripyat Polesie development program will promote economic growth and help further unlock the potential of Luninets District, BelTA learned from Aleksandr Savina, Chairman of the Luninets District Executive Committee and delegate to the Belarusian People’s Congress.
During the second session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress the program on Belarus’ social and economic development for 2026-2030 was approved. One of its priorities is strong regions. In particular, districts of the Pripyat Polesie area in Brest Oblast and Gomel Oblast have come under close scrutiny.
“The program affects all spheres and industries and will certainly give impetus to the development of Luninets District. As far as agricultural production is concerned, plans are in place to build new dairy complexes and update equipment. If we talk about the manufacturing sector, modernization is planned at RUP Granit and OAO Spetszhelezobeton. Our dairy plant project, which provides for building a dry dairy products workshop, has also been included in the Pripyat Polesie program. A pallet production workshop will be built by the Luninets forestry enterprise,” said Aleksandr Savina.
High hopes are pinned on the motorway bridge that is supposed to be built across the Pripyat River between Stolin District and Luninets District. It will create a short route connecting the district capitals. “It will boost trade between the two districts. After all, a 130km roundabout way has an impact on logistics,” explained the chairman of the Luninets District Executive Committee.
Some of the projects will be implemented in the areas of healthcare and education. For example, the Luninets polyclinic is awaiting reconstruction, and the construction of a laboratory has been planned. A list of educational institutions is being compiled for major repairs and renovations of sport facilities. “We have already started this work. The sport facilities at the gymnasium have been modernized this year. A modern stadium and courts for volleyball and mini-football were built, and sport equipment was installed. Similar facilities are to be built at schools No.2 and No.4 in Luninets. Major repairs are planned in preschool institutions. We are working on the matter of building a house with a kindergarten on the first floor,” Aleksandr Savina recounted.
In his words, the Pripyat Polesie development program will help further unlock the potential of Luninets District. For example, it is one of the leaders in the production of vegetables and potatoes. “The program will provide an opportunity to further develop production, including for private farms,” noted the head of the district administration. “All of this will generate revenue for the state budget, which will subsequently be invested in the social sphere and used to increase wages. These are precisely the goals and objectives that the program has set out to accomplish.”
