
MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) - Field Marshal and Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Belqasim Haftar arrived in Belarus on 17 February, BelTA learned.
Lieutenant General Ivan Tertel, chairman of the State Security Committee, welcomed the field marshal at the airport. During the visit Khalifa Haftar will focus on interaction between Libya and Belarus in the humanitarian and social avenues and also economic cooperation.
Khalifa Haftar was appointed Field Marshal and Supreme Commander of the Libyan National Army by the Libyan House of Representatives in 2015. He quickly gained popularity and became one of Libya's leaders, which was attributed to his military successes.
The commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army also became the representative of the eastern government both in inter-Libyan negotiations and in meetings with officials of other states.
