KAMENETS, 11 December (BelTA) – The Year of Improvement has given an impulse to civic initiatives aiming to reduce things to order. Belarusian Housing and Utilities Minister Gennady Trubilo made the statement as he met with the staff of the Kamenets housing and utilities enterprise, BelTA has learned.
The topic “Five-year period of quality – results of the Year of Improvement” was high on the agenda of the meeting. Gennady Trubilo remarked that Belarusians take cleanliness and order in population centers for granted. “Colleagues from abroad note that beautification is our brand. It is true not only for Minsk but all the territories. The cared-for look of our country is appreciated on the international scale,” the housing and utilities minister stressed.
Gennady Trubilo added that the Year of Improvement provided an opportunity to review existing approaches to improving quality. In particular, the volume of repairs to the road network has increased. “We continue working on repairing the road network in agrotowns and promising small rural settlements. In previous years emphasis was placed on replacing asphalt and constructing pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths in large population centers. Now the focus has shifted to rural settlements in order to bring their infrastructure into line with urban infrastructure,” Gennady Trubilo explained.
In his words, the plans for the Year of Improvement have been fulfilled. In cities, towns, agrotowns, and villages work was done on landscaping, replacing light fixtures with LED ones, installing small architectural forms, and renovating courtyard areas. Abandoned areas and vacant lots were also cleaned up. All of it was done not only by housing and utilities workers. The minister of housing and utilities emphasized that the Year of Improvement had an impact on civic initiatives. “Our people are not indifferent to the improvement of territories. They are ready to help on their own, to make our country brighter and more beautiful. This is priceless,” he said. “People take matters into their own hands, tidy up their yards, lay lawns, plant flowers, install playground equipment and benches, and equip areas for walking pets. Every citizen who cares about their country contributes.”
Gennady Trubilo noted that the Year of Improvement will come to an end in 2025, but work in this direction will continue. The housing and utilities sector intends to pay special attention to small settlements. It is necessary to conduct an inventory of abandoned land and bring it into economic circulation.
