MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) - An additional meeting of the expert group to refine and coordinate the draft agreement to organize and conduct joint exercises by border and other agencies of CIS member states to address (eliminate) crisis situations at the external borders was held at the CIS headquarters on 19-20 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

Experts discussed comments and proposals received from member states regarding the draft agreement. It was agreed that, following further refinement of the document, the parties will submit their positions to the CIS Executive Committee for subsequent consideration by the Council of Heads of State. The meeting was attended by representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, the Border Troops Commanders Council, the Coordinating Service of the Border Troops Commanders Council, and the CIS Executive Committee.

The CIS Executive Committee recalled that the main developer of the agreement is the Border Troops Commanders Council. Its purpose is to prepare command bodies and formations of border and other agencies, included in the grouping in accordance with national cooperation plans, for joint actions in the event of and to resolve (eliminate) crisis situations at the external borders of the CIS.

It is expected that conducting joint exercises of border and other agencies of CIS member states to address (eliminate) crisis situations at the external borders will contribute to improving planning, operational and service activities, and command of formations, developing participants’ practical skills in establishing unified approaches to effective forms and methods of action, and enhancing the coordination of command bodies.
