Bill on constitutional amendments passes first reading in Belarus

MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – The bill on constitutional amendments has passed the first reading at the fifth session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus of the seventh convocation, BelTA has learned.

The amendments provide for a possibility of holding elections to the local Councils of Deputies of the 29th convocation simultaneously with the elections to the House of Representatives of the eighth convocation.

In line with Part 1 of Article 99 and Article 138 of the Constitution, the president submitted the bill on constitutional amendments to the House of Representatives on 27 May 2021. On the basis of Article 170 of the Rules of Procedure of the House of Representatives, a special commission was put together to work on the bill.

The special commission sent the bill to standing commissions and for assessment to the Main Legal Department of the Secretariat of the House of Representatives. The technical remarks sent back by the Main Legal Department of the Secretariat of the House of Representatives were reflected in the text of the bill.

The finalized version of the bill was sent to the president. No remarks were made.
