BelTA presents WW2 victory’s anniversary projects at CIS news agencies council session

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – BelTA’s projects timed to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory were presented at a session of the council of heads of state-run news agencies of the CIS states in St. Petersburg, Russia, BelTA has learned.

BelTA Director General Irina Akulovich noted: “Every third resident of Belarus died during the Great Patriotic War. However bitter the historic truth may be, it is very important. The work being done in Belarus by hundreds of search teams is very important. The teams contain a lot of young people but the work is primarily done by the prosecution service and the search battalion of the Armed Forces within the framework of the criminal case looking into the genocide of the Belarusian nation. And they uncover terrible reality. As reporters we have to tell people about this war and demonstrate this war.”

Irina Akulovich talked about the book Warriors of Spirit. It is a joint project of BelTA and the Belarusian Orthodox Church. It presents a cycle of 12 stories about clergymen and monks, who defended the Motherland as part of army units during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and fought against the enemy in the occupied territories.

Another book by BelTA will be presented in two weeks. The Citadels of Courage project tells the story of 42 populated localities, which demonstrated their courage in battles against the Nazi during the Great Patriotic War.

The Victory Parade: Stories and Faces project tells the story of Belarusians, who took part in the legendary Victory Parade in Moscow on 24 June 1945.

The project “The story of one heroic deed” offers unusual human-interest stories that leverage surprising artefacts, personal belongings (even combat equipment and pictures) to present events, destinies, and stories of the heroic deeds committed by genuine heroes.

The photo exhibition Destinies Folded Into Triangle is a joint patriotic project of BelTA and the Belarusian State Museum of History of the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition has been to all the regions of the country. It started the journey in the Brest Fortress. It is an interactive exhibition: thanks to the WW2 field mail service visitors can send a triangle letter to an address inside the country.

The photo exhibition “The victory lives in memory” demonstrates for the first time the full scale of Victory Day celebrations in the BSSR and in sovereign Belarus since 1945 and up till now.

The photo exhibition “Woman, war, Victory” is a series of short videos that have come alive thanks to photos from BelTA’s photo chronicles.

BelTA’s special project “Victory professions” focuses on courageous people of various professions, who fought in the army, behind enemy lines, in the territory occupied by the enemy to make a contribution to the nationwide fight against fascism.

BelTA’s project “Nothing has been forgotten” focuses on the heroic deed and the sorrow of the Belarusian nation, on less known commemorative sites of the Great Patriotic War that are definitely worth remembering in pages of our history.

“It is important to remember that we don’t end the projects after Victory Day celebrations in May. All of them are designed to run till the end of the year. But next year we will continue journalistic work to cover the topic of the Victory, the topic of the heroism of our nations, who brought the Great Victory about as one big family,” Irina Akulovich added.
