MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – Belarusian students won gold at the 17th International Tournament of Young Mathematicians, which took place in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia on 25 January-1 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Education Ministry.
The Belarusian team included winners (diploma holders) of the 26th National Tournament of Young Mathematicians: Arseniy Zagadskiy and Kirill Barabanov from Minsk Serebryany Gymnasium No. 41, Denis Vistunov from Novopolotsk Secondary School No. 12, as well as Sofia Zavalyuk, Denis Zinin, and Maksim Monastyrskiy, students of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics at Belarusian State University. The team won both qualifying rounds and in the final earned a First Degree Diploma and gold medals. The participants were led by Associate Professor Boris Zadvorny of BSU’s Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics.
The competition was organized by Yerevan State University with support from Belarusian State University. “The Tournament of Young Mathematicians is a team competition for students to solve complex mathematical problems. Participants must present their results clearly and convincingly and defend their positions in public debates. The tournament consists of several rounds, where teams alternate presenting their research on assigned tasks and acting as opponents and reviewers for other participants. Teams from Belarus, Russia, Germany, India, China, Pakistan, Romania, and Thailand were invited to the tournament,” the ministry noted.
