MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) – A delegation of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) headed by Deputy Chairman of the NASB Presidium Sergei Shcherbakov is on a visit to Tomsk Oblast, Russian Federation. The Belarusian National Academy of Sciences told BelTA about the areas of cooperation with Tomsk Oblast that are of interest to Belarusian scientists.
The delegation’s three-day program includes meetings with residents of the special economic zone, scientists from academic institutes of the Tomsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a visit to the advanced engineering school of the Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics, as well as talks with Tomsk Oblast Governor Vladimir Mazur.
Opening the working meeting, the governor of the Russian region noted that the interaction between Tomsk Oblast and the NASB is developing systematically. “You were our guests a year ago. You already have a good understanding of the region and its scientific landscape,” Vladimir Mazur said. “For Tomsk Oblast, science and education are the key drivers of development, and its influence is felt in all areas of public life. Many companies we are proud of today originate from the ‘technological belts’ of our universities and academic institutes.”
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has developed especially strong ties with Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics. The head of the region noted that a project for a Union State program in radioelectronics is currently under development.
The participants of the meeting also discussed cooperation between the councils of young scientists. Governor Vladimir Mazur invited young Belarusian scientists to the upcoming U-NOVUS Forum of Young Scientists, Engineers, and Entrepreneurs in 2026.
“We discussed the Union State program dedicated to key aspects of microelectronics. It differs from previous ones in its structured approach, covering the entire process from component development and circuit design to the finished device,” the head of the Belarusian delegation Sergei Shcherbakov said.
At the same time, the potential for fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation between Tomsk Oblast and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is far from exhausted and is already yielding tangible results in micro- and radioelectronics, enabling technological sovereignty and leadership in key economic sectors, and addressing the objectives of the national project “Means of Production and Automation.”
Currently, Belarusian scientists are implementing 20 major scientific projects in Russia, four of them in Tomsk. The Tomsk delegation received an invitation from the guests to the youth science festival, which takes place in Belarus in the second half of September.
Furthermore, the NASB delegation visited Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics, where a meeting to identify the areas of cooperation between the parties took place.
