Belarusian Railways carries over 58m passengers in 2025

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) - Belarusian Railways carried over 58 million passengers in 2025, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Railways press center following the technical and economic council meeting.

According to Aleksandr Khoroshevich, First Deputy Head of Belarusian Railway, 2025 was a year of intensive work for the railway’s staff. While not all targets were met, Belarusian Railways continued its development and maintained stable transport operations.

“In 2025, Belarusian Railways carried over 58 million passengers across all types of traffic. The most in-demand types were interregional and international traffic. In traffic with the Russian Federation, including transit trains, 3.6 million passengers were carried, which is 11.7% higher than the 2024 level, the press center reported.

Among the main tasks for the near future are the implementation of progressive technological solutions and ensuring transport mobility for the population.

First Deputy Transport and Communications Minister Grigory Glazko assessed the railway staff’s work in 2025. He noted that the course set by Belarusian Railways for qualitative transformation has shown certain results. “In 2026, the areas for the Belarusian Railways development are defined within the framework of the 2026-2030 social and economic development program and the Railway Transport subprogram of the state program Transport of Belarus for 2026-2030. Adherence to production and financial discipline will make it possible to increase the economic efficiency of operations and develop new approaches for advancing freight and passenger transportation,” he said.

Belarusian Railways Director General Valery Verenich emphasized that 2026 has been declared the Year of Work Technology Improvement at Belarusian Railways. Its key goal will be the targeted implementation and scaling of advanced technological and organizational solutions aimed at enhancing the efficiency, safety, reliability, and competitiveness of core and auxiliary business processes, as well as developing digital services and the professional competencies of personnel.

“To fulfill all the outlined plans, it is necessary to respond promptly to changes occurring in the service market, increase productivity, and strictly adhere to discipline,” Valery Verenich said.

The event took place at the Belarusian Railways headquarters. The council was attended by Belarusian First Deputy Transport and Communications Minister Grigory Glazko; Chairman of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Industry, Energy, Transport, Communications, and Digital Development Yuri Panfilov; representatives of interacting ministries and departments, the industry trade union organization, and heads of the Belarusian Railways services, organizations, and separate structural divisions.
