MOSCOW, 20 February (BelTA) – Belarus is a pillar of security in the European region, Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Yuri Seliverstov said at a reception marking the Day of Defenders of the Fatherland and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus held at the Belarusian embassy on 19 February, the diplomatic mission’s press service told BelTA.
“As we mark this holiday of patriotism, military duty, and heroism, our nation pays tribute to the defenders of our homeland in every family, every work collective, and at the state level. Our deepest gratitude goes first to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the Armed Forces, and to the soldiers and officers serving both on active duty and in the reserves. Belarus is true to the sacred traditions of the victorious generation and these traditions are carried on with dignity by today’s Belarusian army,” said Yuri Seliverstov.
He noted that the Belarusian state’s foreign policy is based on its strategic alliance with the Russian Federation, as well as comprehensive cooperation with other friendly states.
“Military cooperation between Belarus and fraternal Russia is a fundamental element of the Union State building and is strategic in nature. The consistent work carried out by our states to create an effective military security system ensures the successful functioning of the regional military task force. Our country, the Belarusian people, and our army are confidently moving along the chosen path to achieving their most important goal, which is building a strong and prosperous state,” the ambassador emphasized.
“Today, Belarus constitutes a reliable pillar of security in the European region. This is attributable not solely to the nation’s socioeconomic development and the establishment of an effective national security framework. It represents the choice of the Belarusian people and an incontrovertible historical reality. And we have no doubt that this will persist,” stated Yuri Seliverstov.
Defense Attaché at the Belarusian Embassy in Russia, Colonel Aleksei Yershov, stated that Belarus is a well-established, independent, sovereign state where peace and stability are reliably ensured, the memory of its heroic past is sacredly revered and not allowed to be distorted, and an optimistic and confident aspirations for the future are maintained.
“And much of this has been achieved and is being preserved thanks to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus. The Armed Forces make an indispensable contribution to strengthening international peace and security in cooperation with our strategic ally, the Russian Federation: the Russian Federation is our main supplier of military products, and it helps us a lot with the repair and modernization of weapons and military equipment that are in service with the Belarusian Armed Forces,” he said.
Representatives of the military-diplomatic and diplomatic corps and integration organizations accredited in Moscow, as well as public figures participated in the ceremony. The Honored Orchestra of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus performed for the guests.
