MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Belarusian diplomats laid wreaths at the Soviet military cemetery in the Austrian city of Sankt Polten on 5 April, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in Vienna told BelTA.
The Belarusian diplomats were invited by the Sankt Polten mayor to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Soviet military cemetery as part of events timed to the 72nd anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. About 400 Soviet troops, who fell while fighting the Nazi invaders, are buried at the cemetery. The commemorative event was organized by the city administration on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the city's liberation by the Red Army. Taking part in the ceremony were also representatives of the city administration, Austrian public organizations and mass media, diplomatic missions of the CIS states.
Counsellor of the Embassy of Belarus Andrei Shuplyak thanked the Austrian side for immortalizing memory about the Red Army soldiers, who fell while fighting the Nazi. A wreath from the Embassy of Belarus was laid at the memorial in honor of the Soviet liberators.
