MINSK, 2 November (BelTA) – Agreements on stepping up cooperation between the Belarusian Communications and Informatization Ministry and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) were reached during the 20th conference of the union, which is taking place in Dubai on 29 October - 16 November, BelTA has learned.
Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan met with ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao. Close attention was paid to discussing bilateral cooperation for the sake of further advancement of information and communications technologies and digital economy in Belarus. Konstantin Shulgan expressed interest in implementing joint projects. The negotiations also touched upon the implementation of the Belarusian initiative on upgrading the status of the ITU zonal branch for the CIS states and Georgia up to the regional branch.
Konstantin Shulgan also met with top officials of the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The sides agreed to advance cooperation in the area of communications and digitization.
Apart from that, on behalf of the Belarusian government Konstantin Shulgan cast his vote during ITU leadership elections. Houlin Zhao has been re-elected ITU secretary general. Malcolm Johnson has been re-elected ITU deputy secretary general.
