MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – Belarus will develop national standards in artificial intelligence, Chairwoman of Belarus’ State Committee for Standardization (Gosstandart) Yelena Morgunova said during the national scientific conference Quality 2025, BelTA has learned.

“The Year of Quality in 2024 provided a new impetus for the development of our infrastructure. This work continues during the five-year plan of quality. Forward-looking standardization is a priority. It is precisely into standards that we embed the fundamental principles and core requirements that guide future industry development. Today, in this age of innovation, new requirements are more essential than ever, and it is these that we are incorporating into forward-looking standards. These include artificial intelligence, barrier-free environment, digital transformation, and innovative development of the agro-industrial complex and industry. All these aspects need to be standardized to ensure harmonious development of industries and to allow products to access foreign markets without barriers,” Yelena Morgunova said.

The standards are being developed within technical committees. “On the initiative of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization, a national technical committee is being established to deal with digitalization and artificial intelligence. The development of about eight standards is planned, which will include, among other things, terms and definitions to ensure a clear understanding of what and how we are working with, and how artificial intelligence can assist in our further development,” the chairwoman of the State Standardization Committee noted.

The State Standardization Committee’s task includes protecting the domestic market from non-compliant and unsafe products while simultaneously assisting domestic enterprises in accessing foreign markets without barriers or restrictions. Belarus is a member of integration associations: the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the Eurasian Economic Union, and the Commonwealth of Independent States. “Our goal is to harmonize technical regulations to ensure the free movement of our goods. This is why our work on technical regulation, standardization, and accreditation must be synchronized with other countries. This, in turn, requires the digitalization of these processes to ensure clear traceability and reliable information access at any time,” Yelena Morgunova emphasized.

World Quality Day is observed every second Thursday of November. “Belarus has joined this global initiative, and today we are holding an international conference dedicated to quality issues. Why is this important? We want everything that surrounds us in life, everything we encounter, to be of high quality. Quality roads, education, healthcare, and goods. We constantly talk about quality because the competitiveness of our products and the ability to conquer new markets depend on it. Belarus has always been renowned for the quality of its products. At the conference, we have addressed all issues related to the quality infrastructure. These include standardization, metrological support, accreditation, testing, and state control and supervision of product quality on the market,” the chairwoman of the State Standardization Committee concluded.

The conference attracted leading experts, heads of enterprises, scientists, and specialists in standardization and quality management. They discussed current challenges, shared experience in implementing innovative solutions, and identified promising areas for the development of the national quality infrastructure. The plenary session of the conference was devoted to the development of quality infrastructure and the technical regulation system as a reliable basis for the sustainable development of the national economy. The panel meeting titled as Technological Leaders. Operational Goals and Flexible Plans had a purely practical focus, , with Belarusian industry representatives sharing their proven quality management practices.

The conference took place on 13 November to mark World Quality Day and became one of the key events of the Quality Week, announced in Belarus for the period from 10 to 16 November. The Quality Week aims to demonstrate how traditions, multiplied by hard work and advanced technologies, create a solid foundation for Belarusian quality.
