MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia will set up training centers for military personnel, Chairman of the Commission on Security and Defense of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Security of the House of Representatives Gennady Lepeshko said during a video link Minsk-Moscow, timed to the 25th anniversary of the Union State Treaty, BelTA has learned.
According to him, military-technical cooperation between Belarus and Russia is gaining momentum; the armed forces of both countries are provided with the most advanced weapons, military and special equipment.
“For more than 25 years the air defense forces of Belarus and Russia have been on joint air defense combat duty. The Air Forces conduct joint patrols of the air borders of the Union State in the airspace of the Republic of Belarus. This is extremely important since U.S. strategic and tactical aviation has long been flying in the airspaces of Poland and the Baltic states near the borders of the Union Sate,” Gennady Lepeshko noted. “In addition, plans are in place to establish training centers in Grodno Oblast, in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and Kaliningrad Oblast for joint training of the Armed Forces of both countries. Personnel training in military educational institutions of both countries is underway.
The MP recalled that in 2023, the Union State launched three programs in the defense sector, one of which addresses the border security, the other two - the the infrastructure of Belarus and Russia to provide for the regional group of troops.
“More than 160 agreements on joint activities in the military sphere have been signed. Al the joint exercises that we hold are exclusively defensive in nature, we show the international community that we are not going to attack anyone, but we will defense ourselves,” Gennady Lepeshko emphasized.
