MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva Larisa Belskaya and the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation Gennady Gatilov held a joint briefing for the diplomatic corps in Geneva to present the initiative of Belarus and Russia to develop the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st century, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

The diplomats presented the Charter as a document of great importance which is intended to enhance international security and facilitate the establishment of equitable world order, with focus on Eurasia.

They stressed that the initiative is not directed against any state or group of states and highlighted the importance of establishing a dialogue with all potential participants, including European states.

Belarus’ ambassador emphasized that the Charter should embrace diversity and multipolarity as the most important characteristics of the modern world and the dynamically developing Eurasian region. Larisa Belskaya urged Eurasian countries to join forces to develop the document and show their support for the idea of the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st century.

Russia’s Permanent Representative Gennady Gatilov, in turn, dwelled on the prospects for the formation of new Eurasian security architecture that would seek to eliminate the root causes of conflicts. It is important to generate ideas based not on the right of the might, but on equality and honest balance of interests.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Belarusian-Russian initiative aroused a great interest among the participants of the briefing who represented a number of integration structures in Eurasia and beyond, including the CIS, the EAEU, the European Union, the SCO, BRICS, ASEAN and others.
