MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian Society of the Red Cross in association with the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry will arrange the 8th international school for preparing to respond to emergencies on 23-26 April, the Red Cross press service told BelTA.
The exercise will take place at the Institute for Retraining and Professional Development (IRPD) of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry near the village of Svetlaya Roshcha, Borisov District, Minsk Oblast. This year's event is supposed to practice interaction and coordination of volunteer teams of the Belarusian Society of the Red Cross with government agencies and public organizations in the course of large-scale public events.
Secretary General of the Belarusian Society of the Red Cross Olga Mychko explained that the society is now busy training 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 volunteers how to provide first aid. Apart from that, rapid emergency response volunteers of the Belarusian Society of the Red Cross will also be on duty during the sport forum, including as part of mobile medical teams.
Volunteer teams and specialists from the national societies of the Red Cross from Italy, Russia, and Ukraine will take part in the exercise in Belarus this year. The best practices will be shared and experts will arrange training sessions focusing on the main directions of responding to emergencies, which may occur in crowded places. Participants will be trained how to provide first aid during emergencies involving a large number of victims, how to work in a crowd, how to rescue people in hard-to-reach places and from under debris. Psychosocial support for the victims will also be covered, BelTA learned from Vitaly Tarashkevich, Head of the Emergency Response and Search Department of the Belarusian Society of the Red Cross.
A simulation exercise to practice skills and check knowledge in practice will be the key event of this year's international school.
The Belarusian Society of the Red Cross has held such emergency response exercises since 2011. The event went international in 2014. Experts of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross took part in the exercise events arranged by the Belarusian Society of the Red Cross at various times as well as volunteers and employees of the Red Cross of Bulgaria, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Norway, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Magen David Adom (the Red Cross organization of Israel), the Red Crescent of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.More about Society
