MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – As part of his visit to Qatar, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin held talks with Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs of Qatar, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Defense Ministry.
The parties confirmed mutual interest in intensifying and deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The parties also discussed steps to intensify cooperation in the military sector, taking into account the areas relevant for the parties.
“The Defense Ministry considers the development of military cooperation with the Armed Forces of the State of Qatar as one of the priority areas of activity in the international arena. Our states see a greater potential for military cooperation and intend to make every effort to fulfill it,” Viktor Khrenin said.
The parties discussed ways of resuming the practice of joint training and exercises both in Qatar and Belarus. Cooperation in air defense and military education were named among the most promising and demanded areas of interaction. Qatar is also interested in the Belarusian best practices in drone development and drone counter measures.
The defense minister invited the high-ranking delegation of Qatar to the MILEX 2025 exhibition, stressing that business contacts at such venues contribute to the implementation of mutually beneficial projects and close cooperation. The deputy prime minister, minister of state for defense affairs of Qatar accepted the invitation.
The heads of the defense ministries signed a protocol to confirm the intentions of Belarus and Qatar to strengthen bilateral military cooperation.
