MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – St. Petersburg played host to a meeting of the working group under the CSTO Council of Defense Ministers on electronic warfare (EW), BelTA learned from Press Secretary of the CSTO Joint Staff Vladislav Shchegrikovich.

“The participants reviewed matters related to improving the CSTO’s regulatory and legal framework in electronic warfare, conducting joint training activities with EW units of troop groupings (collective forces), as well as the experience of using electronic warfare forces and assets of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in modern armed conflicts. They also discussed approaches to shaping the structure and legal basis of a Joint (Unified) Electronic Warfare System of the armed forces of CSTO member states,” the press secretary said.

Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov noted that the experience of modern armed conflicts, including the special military operation, confirms the need for effective organization and conduct of electronic warfare in support of missions carried out by troop groupings. This issue becomes particularly relevant when EW forces and assets are used jointly as part of the CSTO Collective Forces. Equally important are the tasks of establishing a Joint EW System at the interstate level, equipping the armed forces of CSTO member states with modern EW equipment, and training the necessary specialists.

The event was attended by representatives of the defense ministries of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, as well as a group of officers from the CSTO Joint Staff led by Deputy Head of the CSTO Collective Forces Employment Planning Center, Lieutenant General Anatoly Yakovlev.
