Belarus, Oman to hold joint scientific projects competition

MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) and the Research and Innovation Authority of Oman will sign a cooperation agreement and hold a competition for joint scientific projects. The matter was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Chairman of the NASB Presidium Sergei Shcherbakov and President of the Research and Innovation Authority of Oman Saif Abdullah Al Hadabi on 1 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the NASB.

Sergei Shcherbakov emphasized that the Academy of Sciences is interested in developing mutually beneficial scientific and technical cooperation with Oman. Among the priority areas of mutual interest are artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, water desalination, wastewater treatment, mechanical engineering and agriculture. Notably, these priorities will form the basis of the cooperation agreement.

Among the most significant projects, the Omani side highlighted the creation of a robot for harvesting dates – one of the most important and challenging crops to harvest not only in Oman but across the region.

The visit of Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergei Shcherbakov as part of the Belarusian delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov to Muscat, Oman, is taking place on 1-2 April.
