Belarus, Myanmar intend to strengthen bilateral military cooperation

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) - During his visit to Myanmar, Belarusian Defense Minister Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister of Defense of Myanmar Maung Maung Aye, BelTA learned from the Defense Ministry of Belarus. 

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying and deepening interaction in areas of mutual interest.

Viktor Khrenin thanked his counterpart for the hospitality, noting that the Republic of Belarus pays special attention to the development of multifaceted cooperation with Southeast Asian states in general and Myanmar in particular.

“Our bilateral interaction has great prospects. I am confident that with the support of friendly states, including the Republic of Belarus, your country will be able to continue on the path of sustainable development and prosperity. We, people in uniform, understand the importance of preserving peace in our countries more than anyone else and we take all measures to keep the armed forces ready to defend territorial integrity and independence,” Viktor Khrenin said. “I am convinced of the mutual interest in implementing the existing bilateral interstate agreements and working out new ones in the course of joint work in various areas, including military cooperation”. 

Following the event, the heads of the defense ministries signed a protocol reaffirming the commitment of Belarus and Myanmar to strengthening bilateral military cooperation.
