MINSK, 16 June (BelTA) - Belarus has become the first among SCO countries to issue a stamp dedicated to the organization’s anniversary, SCO Deputy Secretary General Sohail Khan emphasized the significance of the event as he spoke to BelTA during the first-day-of-issue cancellation ceremony for the 25th Anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization stamp, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Minsk on 16 June.
Sohail Khan expressed gratitude to Belarus for this initiative, which, he said, serves as further evidence of attention to the history, achievements, and values of the SCO. He also noted the important role of Belarus in the organization’s activities. “Over the course of a quarter of a century, the SCO has consistently strengthened mutual trust and good-neighborliness among member states, contributed to regional security, sustainable development, and the expansion of humanitarian ties. The anniversary postal project, featuring an artistic stamp with SCO symbolism and a first-day cover, is not only a tribute to the path traversed but also a symbol of unity, cooperation, and a shared commitment to joint development,” the deputy secretary general emphasized.
According to him, the stamp has traditionally served as a means of preserving historical memory and conveying important ideas to future generations, which is why its issuance for the 25th anniversary of the SCO holds special significance. Sohail Khan expressed confidence that this commemorative issue would draw the attention of the general public to the SCO’s activities and principles. “It is symbolic that we are participants in an event that will go down in the history of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s anniversary year,” Sohail Khan added.
The stamp was put into circulation by the Communications and Informatization Ministry. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The design is by Marina Krezo. The stamp has a print run of 12,000 copies.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization serves as a platform for dialogue and cooperation among member states in key areas including politics, trade and economics, science and technology, culture, and many other fields. It was founded on 15 June 2001 by the leaders of Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Belarus has participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization since 2010 as a dialogue partner, since 2015 as an observer, and since 2024 as a full member.
