Belarus’ Gosatomnadzor now part of CIS council on developing national nuclear infrastructures

MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) – Employees of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) took part in the first session of the consultative body of the basic organization of the Commonwealth of Independent States in charge of matters concerning the development of the national nuclear infrastructures. Two Gosatomnadzor employees were elected to the consultative body, BelTA has learned.

Revisions of the documents that regulate the operation of the consultative body and the basic organization were reviewed and approved. Close attention was paid to considering a draft plan of the basic organization’s work in 2025. Initiatives suggested by Gosatomnadzor were backed and adopted.

The session was held in an online format. Representatives of various government agencies and organizations of the Commonwealth of Independent States as well as the CIS Executive Committee took part in the event.

The basic organization of the Commonwealth of Independent States in charge of developing the national nuclear infrastructures was established by the decision of the CIS Economic Council on 8 December 2023. The main goal of the organization is to assist the relevant bodies, government agencies, and organizations, which participate in the development of the national nuclear infrastructures of the CIS states.

The consultative body of the basic organization is a community board made up of authorized representatives of the relevant bodies, agencies, and organizations of the CIS states. The main goal is to determine strategic avenues of the work and approve annual plans to guide the basic organization’s operation.
