GOMEL, 29 August (BelTA) – Following a visit of the delegation of Gomel Oblast led by Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko to Changchun, Jilin Province, China, a decision was made to prepare a letter of intent to sign a sister-city agreement between Gomel Oblast and Jilin Province, the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee told BelTA.
Speaking to Chinese journalists, Ivan Krupko noted: “With the participation of the People’s Republic of China, two legal entities have been established in Gomel Oblast to build prefabricated houses from metal structures and to process wild crops, which will be harvested in Belarus. A project to set up automobile production is also under discussion, with all factors and opportunities being considered.”
“The Belarusian people have been friends with China for thirty years. Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers secured the Great Victory, and we, in peacetime, must foster ties, develop our countries so that our peoples can live with dignity,” Ivan Krupko emphasized.
He stressed that in order to further close business cooperation between the two regions, it is necessary to create information exchange centers or a kind of representative offices. Gomel Oblast and Jilin Province will work on this, the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee added.
The delegation of Gomel Oblast, which included heads of major industrial and processing enterprises from southeastern Belarus, took part in the China-Northeast Asia Expo in Changchun during its visit to China. It presented its potential at the business forum of Gomel Oblast and Changchun, held a number of business meetings and negotiations, and visited a number of enterprises and organizations.
