MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Belarusian forestry enterprises have harvested over 1 million cubic meters of timber from storm-damaged trees, BelTA learned from the Forestry Ministry.
More than 3,800 hectares of forests, or about one fifth of the whole damaged area, have been cut in salvage logging. Works on cleaning up damaged forests are underway. Over 5,500 hectares of forests have been already cleaned up.
According to the Forestry Ministry, over 3,000 forestry workers, including about 800 tree fellers, are involved in logging activities. More than 400 harvesters, 250 forwarders, 350 log trucks and 540 units of tractor equipment are engaged in cleaning up windfalls. The harvested timber is supplied to forestry shops and also large enterprises of Belarus.
