MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) – The House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus hosted an inter-parliamentary seminar on cooperation between Belarus and Cuba in healthcare and pharmaceuticals on 19 June, BelTA has learned.

“Our president has repeatedly emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation as part of people’s diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding. We have numerous points of convergence with Cuba. We are not just friends: we are brotherly nations who support each other in many areas,” member of the House of Representatives Sergei Klishevich said. “Today we discussed cooperation in pharmacology, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare. These matters are important for citizens of both Cuba and Belarus. We have a lot to offer our Cuban friends. Cuba, in turn, is renowned for the medicines it produces.”

According to him, this is the first seminar of its kind, but it will become a tradition. “We have planned a series of similar seminars on other pressing topics such as industry, food, and agriculture. We are confident that this kind of dialogue will benefit both our peoples,” the parliamentarian added.

Cooperation between Belarus and Cuba in healthcare and pharmaceuticals is well established. In May 2025 the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry approved the registration of the Cuban vaccine Heberbiovac HB for the prevention of hepatitis B. The Belmedpreparaty enterprise, together with Cuba’s Center for Molecular Immunology, has explored the possibility of deeper localization of biotechnological drug production for treating various types of anemia and certain malignant tumors. Naturally, Belarus also shares experience with Cuban partners.

“Given our close ties with Cuban pharmaceutical partners, I can say that for many years we have been receiving ingredients for the production of three types of medicines in various dosages in Belarus. But today we have gone further: we have registered Belarusian medicines in Cuba for sale both there and in neighboring countries. These include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines, and others,” Deputy Healthcare Minister Aleksandr Starovoitov emphasized. “Vaccines offered by the Cuban side have also been registered in Belarus. Cooperation between our ministries and licensing authorities is close and efficient, with no delays in the process.”

The seminar brought together numerous participants and marked another step toward strengthening business ties and advancing joint initiatives, including at the inter-parliamentary level.
