Belarus' civil aviation posts growth across all key indicators in 2025

MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) - Igor Golub, the Director of the Aviation Department at the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus, detailed the development of the air cargo and passenger transportation sector in Belarus in 2025 during a press conference dedicated to Civil Aviation Workers' Day, BelTA has learned.

“Civil aviation is a modern, dynamic, and high-tech transport subsector of the country that meets all international standards of reliability, quality, and safety of air transportation,” Igor Golub stated.

In January-September of this year, the number of passengers carried by air transport increased by 5.8% year-on-year. Passenger turnover (the key performance indicator for civil aviation) reached 107% of the level from January to September 2024. the airports served 2.7% more passengers, while regional airports accommodated 1.3 times more.

Cargo turnover also increased (up by almost 16%), along with the volume of freight transported (up by 2%), and the volume of cargo processed at the country's airports (nearly 20%).

Air navigation services in the country's airspace were provided to 141 airlines from 37 states. The volume of air navigation services surged by 18%. The flow of transit aircraft has become significantly greater. "The intensity of flights through Belarusian airspace has currently risen by almost 27%,” Igor Golub informed.

Airlines from countries such as Egypt (multiple-fold growth), China (1.7 times), Kazakhstan (1.6 times), the United Arab Emirates, and Russia have significantly increased their flight operations.

The national carrier, Belavia Airlines, operates regular flights from Minsk National Airport and also from Gomel, Brest, and Mogilev airports. In total, flights are operated to 22 airports across 11 countries, including eight destinations within the Russian Federation. The flight network is continuously expanding.

Minsk National Airport collaborates with 11 airlines. "We have close and comprehensive cooperation with the Russian Federation, our strategic partner which is also reflected in our industry. Over the past two years, we have  launched nine new routes. Overall, we now operate on 17 routes with airlines from the Russian Federation,” Igor Golub said.

The airports are being upgraded, the volume of services is increasing, and air navigation support equipment and special machinery are being renewed. Additionally, Belarus is also exploring new types of repairs.
