GOMEL DISTRICT, 18 October (BelTA) – Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko and CEC staff are taking part in the Bringing Forests Back to Life campaign in Gomel District, BelTA has learned.

The team is working on a 1.2-hectare plot in the Makeyevo Experimental Forestry, which was damaged by a summer storm. The reforestation plan includes seven oak and three birch seedlings, sourced from the Gomel Forestry Enterprise’s plant nursery.

“The Bringing Forests Back to Life campaign is important not only from the perspective of planting forests as a renewable resource but also for strengthening team spirit. The CEC staff traditionally participates in such events in spring and autumn. It is also an opportunity to communicate, discuss issues related to the functioning of the district. I believe this brings us together. And it is a good, kind tradition to dedicate a day off to meaningful work,” Igor Karpenko said.

He recalled that the current year is the Year of Improvement. “This involves putting things in order on the land, in our settlements, including planting forests as an important resource for the country,” the CEC chairman emphasized. “We are creating a foundation for the future. The forest is growing gradually, and future generations will receive an important resource,” he added.

A member of the CEC Youth Council Yegor Orekh was happy to take part in the campaign, recognizing its importance. Although he had planted trees in the city many times before, this was his first time working on a site cleared after a storm. “In the city, you plant more mature trees, but here it is a bit more challenging with small seedlings: you need to be more delicate in this work,” the young man said.

“The CEC Youth Council has been established quite recently, but we are already getting involved in initiatives. For example, in Gomel and other regions, young people are helping with tree planting,” he stressed. “Participation in such a campaign is very important to me. We are restoring the area after the recent natural disaster. This is our future, the future of our children.”
Running from 11 October to 31 October, the Bringing Forests Back to Life campaign is dedicated to the Year of Improvement. The Belarusian reforestation campaign covers all regions of the country, with a focus on areas damaged by wind and storms.
