Belarus as venue for Ukraine negotiations? Expert assesses Minsk’s prospects

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Minsk is one of the most viable options for peace negotiations on Ukraine, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Earlier, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, reaffirmed Minsk’s readiness to host the negotiations on Ukraine again. Commenting on this statement by the Belarusian leader, Aleksandr Tishchenko expressed the opinion that there are currently no more viable alternatives. This includes factors such as security and the ability to organize negotiations at the highest level.

“The proposal from Hungary seems acceptable. However, when this venue was first discussed, it immediately faced threats and opposition from Europe itself. Promises to shoot down, land, detain, arrest, and so on…,” the expert noted. “I think all this will not yield a positive outcome. Minsk looks like a more viable option.”

Aleksandr Tishchenko pointed out that Türkiye has also been mentioned as another potential venue for negotiations on Ukraine. “Türkiye has its own specifics and I don't particularly see a tone of trust in this direction,” he added.
