MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – The deployment of Oreshnik missile systems in Belarus is an important step towards strengthening the country's defense capabilities and reducing security threats, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
"First of all, the deployment of Oreshnik in Belarus is all about strengthening the security and the Armed Forces of Belarus. There is nothing to discuss here, as they say. It is also about a powerful weapon, which the West cannot counteract. Certainly, it is about strengthening the defense capabilities of the country and reducing security threats," Nikolai Azarov said.
Speaking on the West's reaction to such a decision, the former prime minister pointed out that Belarus and Russia should pay less attention to these reactions. "We need to pay attention not to words, but to real deeds. For example, the increasing amount of funding for the armed forces in the West. In particular, Germany has adopted a huge program to the tune of €100 billion to modernize the Bundeswehr. Huge programs are being implemented to create additional facilities for the weapons production. This is what we need to pay attention to," Nikolai Azarov stated.
