‘At home in both countries’: Glazyev explains true meaning of Union State

MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) - The core purpose of the Union State is to ensure equal rights for citizens, economic entities, and legal entities on the territory of each of the two states, State Secretary of the Union State Sergey Glazyev told the media following a meeting with the Belarusian president, BelTA has learned.

“Within the Union State, we are committed to making our citizens feel equally at home in both countries. And I believe we've succeeded. The core purpose of the Union State is to ensure equal rights for citizens across our two nations. The same applies to businesses and legal entities,” Sergey Glazyev said. “Leading the commission on equal rights, I can report that instances of possible discrimination are extremely rare, easily counted on one hand. Belarusian and Russian citizens truly feel at home in both countries.”

The state secretary emphasized that the bond between the two peoples extends beyond economics into culture and society. “Institutions like the Union State unite us. We share a common market, a unified customs space, and tens of thousands of cooperative enterprises that comprise our integrated economic fabric. And this doesn't even account for the millions of interconnected human lives and stories,” Sergey Glazyev said.

Sergey Glazyev reinforced Lukashenko's remarks about the indissoluble bond between Belarus and Russia. “The reverse is equally true: Russia cannot separate from Belarus. This reflects not just the political determination of our leaders, but the fundamental reality of our existence. Anyone attempting to defy this reality or stoke artificial divisions would find it a very costly exercise,” he added.
