"On Point"
MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has always paid special attention to food security, Aleksei Avdonin, an analyst with the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research (BISR), said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“The issue of food security is always on the agenda of the heads of state of Belarus and Russia. We know very well that any social upheavals in human history began precisely because of food shortages. Aleksandr Lukashenko has paid increased attention to the food security of our state since the first days of his presidency,” said Aleksei Avdonin.
According to the analyst, various destructive forces are still trying to use this issue to create tension in society. “In the spring, they began to raise the issue that Belarusians had allegedly run out of potatoes. This topic was fueled in various ways and methods, including fake photos and videos,” he emphasized.
These actions did not lead to the desired result, Aleksei Avdonin said. “That does not mean however that we may feel complacent. At any moment, other options could be used to create a state of dissatisfaction in society.”
The analyst recalled that the president had outlined a task for managers at all levels to ensure that both Belarus and brotherly Russia had enough potatoes in stock. “Here, we are talking about increasing soil fertility, the efficiency of agriculture, and the use of modern varieties and technologies that would contribute to higher yields,” he concluded.
