MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – The survival of modern European regimes is based on supporting war, and therefore they will cling to the Ukrainian armed conflict until the very end, allocate funds for it, and manufacture weapons, Elena Ponomareva, Doctor of Political Science, Professor at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
The political analyst explained that the capabilities of the Oreshnik missile system are significant, and in Ukraine, as well as in European countries, it has been understood that it is currently impossible to destroy this weapon with anything. “We must admit that, of course, the Oreshnik system works. And indeed, it is a death sentence for the Ukrainian regime, precisely for this junta on Ukrainian territory. But it seems to me that European elites still believe that Russia will never strike Europe. Regarding the USA, we know perfectly well that no one has such certainty. And there was no such certainty about the UK either. And there never will be,” the expert emphasized.
Elena Ponomareva cited examples from history when Western states, particularly the UK, employed the most brutal methods of warfare. “The most vivid examples are how they essentially wiped peaceful German cities off the map, where there wasn’t even any industry located, these small towns, turning them to dust during World War II. Those carpet bombings were supposed to break the Germans’ spirit of resistance. I very much doubt that this would have been achieved if not for the success of the Red Army on the territory of Germany,” the political analyst said, noting that the UK showed how little they value human life.
According to the political analyst, Europeans do not believe that Russia will strike the West with the Oreshnik missile system. “Europeans are confident that, most likely, we will not do this. This minimizes the chance of making the right decision to stop supporting the Kiev junta. That’s on one hand. On the other hand, the survival of modern European regimes is based on war, on supporting war. And if there is no war, then there will be no them. So, they will cling to this war until the very end: allocate some money, then collect it, then squabble over it among themselves, keep their factories busy, and so on and so forth. That is, to build up a more or less significant military force against Russia, explaining to their citizens the necessity of militarization and Russophobia. Moreover, they can use the Oreshnik factor to intensify this Russophobia, saying, look how aggressive the Russians are. But this should not concern us. We must worry about the lives of our citizens, citizens of the Union State [of Belarus and Russia], and defend our territories and our population with all the capabilities we have,” Elena Ponomareva is convinced.
