MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) – Europe is building an iron curtain around itself, editor-in-chief of PolitRussia, political scientist Ruslan Ostashko said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
He stressed that the European Union is restricting tourist travel to Russia and Belarus so that its citizens cannot see for themselves that both countries are not as frightening as they are portrayed, and in many respects are even more attractive than some European states.
“In the 1990s we were taught that Europe was progressive, that we should strive to be like it, and that it represented the right civilizational model for Belarus and many parts of Russia. However, when Europeans come here, they often find that the food is delicious and affordable, the people are friendly and welcoming, and no one is walking around with balalaikas. Compare this with modern-day Paris or Berlin, where migrants have arrived and are causing disorder. People return to Europe and begin asking uncomfortable questions – and they receive no answers. So the only way out for European politicians is not to make life better for ordinary Europeans, but to say: ‘Don’t believe your eyes, trust us. We know better what Russia is really like. What you saw was just a show-off and propaganda’,” the analyst said.
“How are Europeans supposed to talk to their authorities now? This is why they think about war. They will strike first, and then say: ‘Look, the Russians attacked.’ And we, in order to avoid being destroyed by a pre-emptive strike, will need to prevent it. After all, provocation is their modus operandi. It is a purely Anglo-Saxon, and especially British, tactic. They have always done so in a deceptive manner. We are open: come to us and see for yourselves. Now it is they who are building an iron curtain around Europe, not us,” Ruslan Ostashko noted.
