Analyst: Deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus serves interests of both Minsk and Moscow

MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) - The deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus serves the interests of not only Minsk but also Moscow, independent military analyst Aleksandr Alesin said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
The military analyst pointed out that Belarus possesses various types of weapons that can have a deterrent effect on a potential adversary. Among these, he named tactical nuclear weapons, as well as the Oreshnik missile system, which is planned to be deployed in Belarus by the end of the year.

“This allows us to neutralize the numerical superiority of a potential adversary. If you take all NATO countries, they have more aircraft, more tanks... But the presence of weapons such as the Iskander or Oreshnik sobers the minds of aggressors,” Aleksandr Alesin stated.

The expert emphasized that such steps are taken to prevent war. He added that it allows Belarus to prevent a stab in the back to its closest ally, Russia: “The deployment of nuclear weapons here corresponds not only to the interests of Belarus but also to the interests of Russia.”
