MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – After the election of Aleksandr Lukashenko as head of state in 1994, Belarus took the right path and it is now proving this to the whole world, political commentator with the Rossiya Segodnya media group Vladimir Kornilov told the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.

On 10 July, Belarus marked the 30th anniversary of the institution of the presidency. “In the early and mid-1990s Russia and Ukraine experienced the same processes of collapse and disintegration as Belarus went through. We remember that a strong vertical of power was built in Belarus at a time when Ukraine was falling apart. And now we can compare what has come of Ukraine and Belarus,” said Vladimir Kornilov.

Thus, the political analyst assumed that Ukraine chose the wrong time to strengthen presidential power. These processes started to take shape in Ukraine only in the 2000s or even the 2010s. “As a result, we see where the country is now. Anarchy, absolute lawlessness and chaos,” he noted.

Vladimir Kornilov emphasized that after the election of Aleksandr Lukashenko as head of state, Belarus took the right path and is now proving it to the whole world.
