MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – Twelve hours before Polish checkpoints are scheduled to close, an estimated 2,000 vehicles are waiting in line to enter Poland, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee.
“Today, the State Border Committee received an official notification from the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland regarding the closure of the remaining operational international checkpoints on the Belarus-Poland border, effective from 1:00 a.m. on 12 September, Belarusian time. As of 12:00 p.m., there are 1,600 cars, 300 trucks, and 70 buses queued in front of the Terespol (adjacent to Brest) and Kukuryki (adjacent to Kozlovichi) border crossings. The Polish side has undertaken to provide additional information concerning the resumption of the checkpoints’ operations,” the Belarusian border agency said.
The busiest route for passenger transport runs through the Terespol crossing. Its control services have fulfilled only 26% of their transit quota.
