MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) - Statements about the potential supply of Tomahawk missiles could have been used by the USA as a kind of weapon of diplomatic warfare, the independent military analyst Aleksandr Alesin said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Why didn't Trump state specifically whether he would or would not give Tomahawks to Ukraine? The U.S. president pursued a very specific goal: to pressure the Russian leadership to force Moscow to the negotiating table on unfavorable terms. Tomahawks are also a weapon of diplomatic war,” Aleksandr Alesin said.

In his opinion, with such statements, the USA is trying to sow panic among ordinary Russians who may not be well-versed in the intricacies of weaponry: “This is precisely why messages were spread that this extremely dangerous missile could fly beyond the Volga River, hit any important facility, and deprive citizens of all utilities - electricity, water supply... Western media have been fueling this uncertainty: whether they are going to give it or not.”

The expert believes that by making such statements, the U.S. president was waiting for a specific reaction from Russian leader Vladimir Putin. “Washington is counting on frightened and discontented people to put pressure on Putin so that he agrees to unfavorable terms. This, in my view, is one of the reasons why this topic is being raised,” Aleksandr Alesin added.
