11th mechanized brigade in qualification drill as part of Belarusian army’s inspection

SLONIM DISTRICT, 13 February (BelTA) – The snap inspection of the combat readiness of the Belarusian army continued in the 11th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade in the town of Slonim, BelTA has learned.

The military personnel had to pass qualification today. During the assessment the servicemen demonstrate their proficiency in shooting small arms (assault rifles, pistols, machine guns, grenade launchers) as well as BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles and self-propelled artillery systems. All of those are their standard weapons. Weather conditions complicate the tasks, but the military personnel are coping with everything.
One of the brigade’s servicewomen described how she managed to qualify. “I performed excellently in the training shoot: all the targets were hit. On the whole, we are already used to it and are ready for anything, this is why there are no complications. We have a target, we have a task, and we get it done,” she noted.

The woman has been serving in the army for 16.5 years. “I was in communications for 15 years, now I’m in this unit. I can’t imagine doing any other job. I don’t want to go anywhere else. I like it here,” she said. “Strength of spirit is important in the army service, discipline is definitely important, physical fitness is a must, and it has to be maintained all the time. We always approach all tasks with a positive attitude. We love our work, our service, and the army as a whole.”
Another soldier, who also passed her qualification with flying colors, has slightly less experience (six years) but her skills and abilities are no less impressive. “For us performing such tasks is routine. We train all the time, this is why there are no complications. This is why we get excellent marks,” she said, expressing her confidence that women can serve in the army on an equal footing with men. She shared that she unexpectedly joined the army: she had a close look at this line of work, liked it, and therefore continues to serve.

An enlisted soldier from the 11th brigade, who also passed the qualification, added that the test was unexpected, but they are always prepared. “This is a fire for record that allows us to understand our ability. I wouldn’t say it’s difficult for us. We’re used to it. The only thing that motivates us is the desire to improve our combat training so that we can defend our Motherland,” he emphasized.

According to Aleksandr Neverovsky, Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, fairly high results were achieved in all areas. “Both enlisted personnel and officers are capable of performing the tasks assigned to them and are confident in their use of weapons,” Aleksandr Neverovsky stated.
BelTA reported earlier that the large-scale inspection of the Armed Forces authorized by the head of state began on 16 January. The commander-in-chief personally monitors its progress. A new system has been worked out to enable the president to place military units on combat alert without involving the Defense Ministry and the General Staff. The primary goal of this inspection is to see an objective picture. This is why the events are sudden.
