MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – It is necessary to determine how missile production in Belarus should be developed taking into account forms and methods of modern warfare. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement during a conference held on 21 August to discuss missile production, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to the dynamic level of military threats and a substantial increase in military spending by Belarus’ western neighbors. According to the president, it forces one to constantly pay close attention to matters concerning Belarus’ defensive ability, including within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. For instance, in June 2025 the Belarusian head of state made a number of decisions regarding future development of unmanned aerial vehicles, which increasingly dominate battlefields.
Aleksandr Lukashenko invited participants of the meeting to have a serious conversation about future steps on the development of missile production in Belarus. “The conference is dedicated to a serious matter: the matter of modernization and development of missile production in Belarus,” he specified.
It is necessary to take into account the rather small experience of the country in this complicated industry, which has evolved with Russia’s support among other things. “Just like unmanned aviation this branch of the defense industry is rather young. We’ve created it virtually from scratch. We have failed to achieve some things. We couldn’t or cannot accomplish some things,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked. “Just like in other sectors of the economy we operate as efficiently as possible on the basis of the available financial resources. It is the most important guideline.”
According to the president, during the conference it is necessary to determine to where and how the development of this industry should advance taking into account forms and methods of modern warfare.
“It is also important because of my visit to the People’s Republic of China and a conversation with China President Xi Jinping (we are making plans for such a meeting). Why? Because we started or we continued making missiles in tight cooperation with the Chinese military industry complex. And we have contacts now,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
