Lukashenko urges to give momentum to Polesie region

LYASKOVICHI, 4 October (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko reiterated the objectives for the development of the Polesie region during his working trip to Petrikov District of Gomel Oblast, BelTA has learned.

"They want to redraw the world map. We have nowhere to go. We must survive. We don't want to go back to the time of the Poleshuks wearing straw shoes (as was once the case). Therefore, we must give momentum to the Polesie region,” the head of state stated.

He referenced a national program being implemented to address this issue.

As BelTA previously reported, a development program for the districts of Pripyat Polesie for 2025-2030 was approved in January 2025. It was drafted in line with an instruction from the Belarusian president.

The document is designed to improve the prosperity and quality of life in the districts of the Pripyat Polesie: the districts of Gantsevichi, Luninets, Stolin, and Pinsk of Brest Oblast, and the districts of Yelsk, Zhitkovichi, Kalinkovichi, Lelchitsy, and Petrikov of Gomel Oblast. Growth will be driven by: more efficient use of the unique natural resources, a stronger industrial sector, the adoption of best practices in agriculture, and the development of a comfortable environment that blends the advantages of rural living with urban-level infrastructure and services.
