Lukashenko: Development program for southeastern part of Mogilev Oblast ‘must be very specific’

KRASNOPOLYE DISTRICT, 14 April (BelTA) - The new program for the development of the southeast part of Mogilev Oblast must be very specific, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a meeting discuss the comprehensive social and economic development of the southeastern part of Mogilev Oblast, BelTA has learned.

The decrees on the comprehensive social and economic development of the southeastern part of Mogilev oblast (Krichev, Klimovichi, Krasnopolye, Kostyukovichi, Slavgorod, Cherikov, and Khotimsk districts) were adopted in 2015 and 2020. It is currently proposed to extend the program for 2026-2030.

A large portion of the region's territory was contaminated by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, which severely damaged the local economy. There was a real risk that much of the area could be destroyed.

“Unfortunately, we nearly ruined seven districts. Much has been lost, but these districts need to be revived. You were given five years. But this is not the result that I have hoped for. We will outline a five-year program for the southeast part but it must be exceptionally specific,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.

The head of state noted that during his visit to the Poluzh fish farm in Krasnopolye District, it was proposed to scale up the experience of such enterprises, which have a positive impact on the development of the district.

“A good project. We need to think over projects that can be implemented. As for financing… We will help in this or that way,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
