Lukashenko urges continuous efforts to boost quality, cut costs

MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – It is important to work continuously to improve quality and reduce costs, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he received the government’s performance report for 2025, BelTA has learned.

Speaking about the problematic trends of the past year, the president pointed to an increase in costs: “Every second minister not only failed to reduce them, but even increased them. Bellegprom reported an increase of almost 5%. This despite the fact that their warehouses are overstocked with nearly four months' worth of output. Bellesbumprom saw an increase of 6%. The Industry Ministry added 2.5%.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that in recent years work has stopped on completely on reducing costs, cost prices and on economizing. “This topic has essentially disappeared from the government's agenda. Or have you forgotten that, besides the 'market,' there are such economic concepts as well?" the head of state addressed those present.

The president placed special emphasis on continuing work on the quality of manufactured products. Especially since the five-year plan for quality in Belarus is ongoing.
Aleksandr Lukashenko outlined the problematic aspects: “We worked for years on the development of electric transport, implemented an entire program. But every year there are complaints about defects and piles of claims. Last year, Belkommunmash had the defect rate increase by almost 40% across all sales regions. The situation is no better at Gomselmash, where every second combine harvester under warranty experiences failures for various reasons.”

"Today it is the industry minister that fails on the quality of machinery, and tomorrow, because of his shortcomings, it will be the agriculture minister that will suffer as he will be held accountable daily for planting and harvesting. Consequently, partners in foreign markets are no longer as eager to purchase our machinery. They count both time and money,” the head of state added.

The president demanded that industry regulators, the supervising deputy prime minister, and the government apparatus strengthen their efforts to correct shortcomings.

“There are very good products that have been awarded the Quality Mark. But the work to promote these products is not visible,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
