Lukashenko: There are 15-20 people in Belarus who can grow into presidents

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – There are 15-20 people in Belarus who can grow to be the president of the country. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during a meeting with representatives of the general public, experts, and mass media titled as the Big Conversation with the President on 9 August, BelTA has learned.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko many civil servants and other citizens demonstrated their true attitude to the country during the period of protest movements in Belarus. “There are people who didn't waver and didn't betray in those trying days. By doing it, they became part of history of our state and their essence was crystallized. Ivan Kubrakov is one of them. It turns out there are 15-20 people in Belarus who can grow into presidents. I am sorry for immodesty but they resemble me in some ways. Maybe because they grew up next to me. They are dedicated to the country, they are reliable, and they will not cut up anyone. A majority of the citizens will vote for them,” he said.

Asked who the next president of Belarus will be, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that people will elect the next president. “He or she cannot appear out of thin air. When I was elected, times were different, risks were taken then. These days people think differently. If there is a presidential election, I can promise I will not push for anyone. I will study their biographies if I don't know them. But I doubt it. I will tell everything about everyone. If necessary, I will talk to them on the air. Everything will be on equal terms,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also noted that a pragmatic normal person will win the next election in Belarus.
