MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – The era of so-called “open innovations”, innovation unions, and other fine-sounding ideas about globally shared scientific discoveries is over, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the government conference held on 21 November to discuss the development of the domestic science and the performance of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
The head of state emphasized that the proposals and decisions from the meeting must be communicated to the broad scientific and managerial community. This is to ensure a clear understanding of the new rules and norms that will guide their future work.
He stated that this era has given way to a new trend of isolation marked by the closing of borders to high technology and the exclusion of scientists from the countries viewed as rogue by the “advanced” European Union from established and successful research consortia. “Everyone has started to close themselves off,” the president said.
This isolation is most evident in microelectronics, where barriers are being created against the supply of capital goods, components, and spare parts, and sanctions are being imposed on the delivery of high-tech solutions to so-called unfriendly countries.
“Belarusian society expects new, breakthrough ideas from scientists, leadership in traditional fields of specialization, and expansion of competencies in emerging global vectors of scientific and technological progress,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
