Lukashenko: The collective West is driven by thirst for profits, hatred towards victors

MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – The collective West is driven by their thirst for profits and hatred towards the victors, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a solemn assembly held in the Palace of the Republic on 2 July in anticipation of Independence Day, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus also remembers the contribution to the Great Victory of the countries that made up the anti-Hitler Coalition.

“It’s a pity that this coalition no longer exists. And it’s a shame that the new Western European elites are repeating the mistakes of their predecessors. What really unites the collective West today? Thirst for profits at the expense of others and inherent hatred against the victors, of us. I will not tire of reminding you that the whole of Europe fought against the Soviet Union under the Hitlerite swastika: a legion of citizens of European states, more than a dozen divisions made up of foreigners and collaborators - fanatics who sacrificed their peoples,” the head of state said.

The president recalled that they were backed by the elites - politicians and businesses who threw their support behind the Nazi Germany.

“Everyone - from Wehrmacht soldiers to producers of chocolate, clothing, weapons and equipment for the German army - is responsible for the genocide of the Soviet people, including Belarusian people. It was they who, during more than three years of occupation, turned Belarus into a scorched earth. And today their descendants, instead of repenting and atoning for the sins of their grandparents, stifle us with sanctions, they threaten us. I have seen and experienced a lot in my life, but it is truly shocking and heartbreaking to see the map of Belarus dotted with burial places. Each burial place means thousands of brutally murdered civilians, including old people, women and children. Millions. Our elderly, our women and our children. Who did they threaten?” the Belarusian leader asked a rhetorical question.
