Lukashenko thanks Trump and his wife for letter addressed to him

MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has asked that his gratitude be conveyed to U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for the message delivered by the U.S. President’s representative, John Coale. Aleksandr Lukashenko made the request while receiving a report from Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov, BelTA has learned.
“First, please convey [my thanks] to Donald and the First Lady for their congratulations and good wishes. We understand [what it means]; we can read between the lines. We greatly appreciate this message from Donald Trump,” the head of state said.
The letter, in particular, reads: “Dear Mr. Lukashenko, Melania joins me in sending our best wishes on the occasion of your birthday.”
The letter also mentions Aryna Sabalenka’s recent victory at the US Open Tennis Championships: “We are specially pleased to acknowledge Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka’s tremendous win at the US Open in New York. She represents the very best of your country. And we know you must be proud of her accomplishments.”

“As you look forward to the coming year, we pray for your health and well-being, as well as continued progress toward our shared goals on behalf of the United States and Belarusian people,” the letter reads.

John Coale highlighted that the U.S. president signed the letter with just “Donald”. “He rarely does this, and it’s a special sign of friendship,” the envoy explained.
