Lukashenko talks about cooperation with Venezuela, Latin America countries

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – Cooperation with Latin America countries is important. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement while talking to reporters in Minsk on 26 January, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Since we have to diversify trade and economic relations today, Belarus seeks footholds all over the world. Products worth billions of U.S. dollars, which are made not only in Belarus but in many countries, are at stake. We have to deal with tough competition.”

The president spoke at length about interaction with Venezuela: “We are not so wasteful that we will forgo our accomplishments. And relations with Venezuela represent our accomplishment since the days of Hugo Chavez.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko explained that a lot had been done in Belarus-Venezuela interaction. “We’ve built a tractor plant, an automobile plant, a brick plant over there. We’ve built entire cities and towns as Hugo Chavez asked. This is why in no case would we want to lose Venezuela and we keep up these relations,” he remarked.

The president also said: “Not so long ago our government delegation visited countries of the Caribbean region, including Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba. In other words, we have the points where we will continue developing what we’ve started.”

He drew attention to Belarus’ interest in yet another country: “We are trying to establish relations with a huge country – with Brazil. We know that they have a strong interest in Belarus as far as individual goods are concerned. We have a strong interest not only in aircraft but it is one of the areas we would like to grab.”

“We will also keep up relations with Cuba, Nicaragua, Mexico, Venezuela, and Brazil. If we establish them, it will be nice,” the head of state believes.

Apart from that, the president noted: “I would like Belarus to cooperate with the USA, Canada, and possibly with Greenland. We don’t reject the possibility.”
