Lukashenko speaks against inessential construction projects

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – Construction projects which are not essential today or tomorrow should not be undertaken, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to discuss the draft forecast documents for 2026 in Minsk on 16 October, BelTA has learned.

The president noted that new state programs will be launched next year. The government has already compiled a list of them, which will be reviewed separately. “Most of them are social and economic ones and are funded from the budgets. But what is the basis of these programs? How was the need for resources determined? These must be real, practical plans aimed at a specific and effective result!” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
"The prime minister has been instructed under no circumstances to engage in the construction and creation of anything we can do without today and tomorrow (and I am sure he will follow through). I'm looking at these offices, these local ‘palazzos’ and other things. What needs to be built should be included in the program," the head of state emphasized.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, there are other areas that should be prioritized for funding. For example, the construction of modern livestock farming complexes.

"Enough of these palaces and cultural objects. It's probably more important to build housing for people. Don't squander money that you don't have. We must assess the situation objectively and stop constructing all sorts of museums, recreation centers, and so forth. We need to utilize the existing ones," the president remarked. “We will build one museum using both government funds and charity donations. Everyone together. This one museum [a new building for the National History Museum in Minsk] will be enough. Enough! People will come and see because there's already lots of them locally. The same goes for other facilities.”
